StepChess
Structured online chess training based on the renowned Steps Method curriculum for beginners and intermediates.
What is StepChess?
StepChess is the online implementation of the Steps Method — a widely used chess teaching curriculum developed in the Netherlands that has been adopted by thousands of chess schools and coaches worldwide. The method progresses through six levels (Steps 1–6), each building systematically on the previous, covering piece movements, basic tactics, strategy, and endgames in a structured sequence.
The platform provides interactive exercises aligned to each step, allowing students to work through the curriculum at their own pace. Coaches and teachers can assign steps to students and track their progress. The structured, incremental approach makes it particularly well-suited to young players and adults who prefer methodical learning over ad-hoc puzzle grinding.
StepChess offers a free trial; full access requires a subscription. Physical workbooks for the Steps Method are available separately from the publisher and are widely used in scholastic chess programs.
